Who are Seventh-day Adventists?
Seventh-day Adventists (SDAs) are Christians who live in a relationship with Jesus Christ and share the hope of His plan to take us to Heaven. We believe the plan of Salvation – Christ’s death on the Cross for our sins (His grace) – is open to all who believe in Him and accept Him as their Saviour. A Christian’s life is not just about going to heaven – although this offers us hope for a better tomorrow – it is as much about sharing an authentic relationship with Jesus which brings us security and purpose in the way we live our lives day-to-day.

The SDA denomination has its roots in Protestantism – and emerged after a small group of believers in the Northern United States, through careful study of the Bible came to different understandings about the interpretation of widely held Protestant beliefs. On October 1, 1860 a gathering of delegates officially took the name “Seventh-day Adventist” 1. The name refers to several core beliefs, from the Bible, that differentiate Seventh-day Adventism from other Protestant Denominations. These include;

  • That Christ’s second coming (Advent) is literal and will be seen by the whole world
  • That the seventh day of the week, Saturday (not Sunday) is God’s Sabbath – created to bring us vitality and deep spiritual blessing through a special day each week designated for fellowship with God and fellow believers, while resting from many of our weekly activities. Sabbath for Seventh-day Adventists is observed from sunset Friday evening, until sunset Saturday evening.

Furthermore, the Adventist Church takes the Holy Bible as its “sole guide for the standard of Faith and practice” – meaning that we observe the Bible as God’s divinely inspired word above all other writings.

Adventist Education

Philosophy Statement

The heart and soul of Adventist Education stems from a worldview regarding the origin, meaning, purpose and destiny of human life, which is drawn from the Bible. This gives Noosa Christian College a “special character” reflected in the Vision, Mission and Values statements that are so important to its administration, teachers and staff members. Noosa Christian College is a total learning environment, with careful attention paid to an appropriate balance between connecting with God each day, engaging in a wide range of planned curricular activities and time spent in recreation. The College is a community of learning in which a spirit of cooperation, a sense of safety and security, and respect for the diversity of individuals and cultures are valued and nurtured. The ‘Golden Rule’, Jesus injunction to ‘treat others as you like to be treated’ is our preferred basis for social interaction. We seek to foster attitudes and standards of behaviour among our students consistent with an Adventist (Christian) worldview.
