Core subjects including Maths, English, Humanities & Social Science, and Science are studied as a class in Year 9 and 10. All Students complete a compulsory 6 months of both Design & Technology and Home Economics. Additionally, Year 9 and 10 students are offered two electives in the creative and practical fields. Each student must select two subjects from a total of five including; Business Education, Visual Art, Music, Drama and Information & Communications Technology (ICT). These electives are taught as Year 9/10 composite classes.
The College’s curriculum for the Core subject areas of Maths, English, Science and Humanities & Social Science for Years 7-10 are based on the new Australian Curriculum which was rolled out in 2012 under the joint supervision of Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), and Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ). Other subject areas currently follow the Education Queensland Curriculum
Real world experience:
In the first term of Year 10, all students complete five full days of work experience at a local business. This opportunity gives students a valuable insight into a workplace and a taste for their potential career preferences.
